A Fresh Start for a Deserving Family: How The Undaunted Warhorse Initiative Helped the Gillispies Avoid Homelessness
At The Undaunted Warhorse Initiative (UWI), our mission is clear: to prevent veterans from falling into homelessness by offering timely, meaningful support when they need it most. This mission was brought to life once again in the case of Joshua and Elizabeth Gillispie, a veteran family on the brink of crisis.
The Gillispie family found themselves facing the unthinkable. The home they had been living in had deteriorated to the point of being unsafe and uninhabitable, and they were under the looming threat of foreclosure. With children to care for and no stable housing solution in sight, Joshua—a veteran who had served his country—turned to The Undaunted Warhorse Initiative for help after seeing one of our outreach posts on social media.
Moved by their story and guided by our mission to act before veterans fall into homelessness, UWI took swift and decisive action. Thanks to our incredible network of donors and supporters, we were able to provide a down payment directly to an RV company to help the Gillispies acquire a travel trailer—a safe, functional, and immediate housing solution for the entire family.
But the support didn’t stop there. With guidance from our team, the family was able to secure a long-term RV park location, providing them not only with a roof over their heads but also a stable and secure community environment to begin rebuilding their lives.
This investment didn’t just buy a trailer—it restored safety, dignity, and hope for a veteran family that was quickly running out of options. Their situation perfectly aligned with our objective criteria for disbursing assistance: to intervene before a veteran or veteran family slips into homelessness due to factors beyond their control.
Every case we take on, including the Gillispies', is handled with care, accountability, and a focus on long-term sustainability. Each dollar donated is used with purpose, transparency, and measurable impact. In this case, it directly changed the trajectory of an entire family’s life.
